Last year my wife and I tracked our grocery expenses for  3 months.  We were spending $75-$100 a month on bottled water for a family of 5.  If you live in Middle, TN the water is twice as hard as the recommended levels.   Drinking from the tap without a filter leaves an unpleasant taste.  Assuming we continued spending $75/month on bottled water, we would have spent $900/year.  That’s a lot of money for water.

We stopped buying the bottled water from the store and installed a water filtration system in the kitchen, which cost approximately $100 for the system and filter. Purchasing the water filter allowed us to save on our grocery bill each month plus we made the earth a bit greener by not purchasing plastic.

The system purifies the water by treating the chemicals and bacteria that are present in your tap water. Having a water filtration system in your kitchen will be sure to provide you clean drinking water whenever you want. No more worries of running out of water and having to run to the store late at night if you don’t like drinking tap water.

Cutting energy costs is an easy way to shave off unnecissary expenses from monthly bills. It also makes your house more marketable later when you are getting ready to sell your home.

The first thing you should do is perform a home energy audit. There are several ways you can do this. You can either have someone come out and do the audit which will cost a good chunk of change in most cases. We recommend either calling your power company and asking for an audit, or you can go to www.energyright.com or www.hes.lbl.gov for a do-it-yourself audit. Energy Right will allow you to do a free home audit and then will send you a free energy conservation kit. The site for hes.lbl.gov is the Department of Energy's Home Energy Saver calculator.
