What is Radon?
Is Radon a problem in this area and should you test for it? Radon is an invisible, odorless, colorless, tasteless gas. The gas occurs from natural breakdown of uranium in soil. Radon gas has been found in every state in the U.S. It can enter your home, worksite, school and other buildings. Several years ago the US Surgeon General stated that Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer and accounts for 20,000 deaths a year. There are measures you can take to protect you and your family from radon exposure. Testing is key. Testing is not invasive and is not costly. If your home is found to have elevated levels of radon it can be fixed. A properly installed radon mitigation system can bring radon levels below EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) recommended levels.
