Do you have a problem going outside at dusk because of the mosqitoes?  They seem to be everywhere.  There are strategies you can use to help control the mosquito population around your home.  All mosquitoes require water to reach the adult stage. It is the female mosquitoes that bite because they need the blood to ensure their eggs are viable. 

Several ways homeowners can eliminate potential larval sites are -

  1. remove containers such as cans, buckets, plastic sheeting from areas around the house.
  2. don't allow water to sit in bases of flower pot and pet dishes for more than 1 week.
  3. clean gutters and downsprouts, removing standing water.
  4. fill tree holes with sand or mortar
  5. fill and drain depressions left by tires

Ways to prevent bites-

Repellents with DEET can be applied to clothing and skin.  Avoid shaded locations with overgrown vegetation.
